Judge Larry Patterson intervenes in Paris Mountain plans - residents say development too dense
A Greenville judge has ordered the county's independent Planning Commission to explain its controversial decision to allow Paris Mountain developer Joe Hiller's HHH Ltd. to add 16 lots to the Stoneridge development.
A vocal group of Stoneridge residents calling themselves Greenville Vistas Association has opposed the new homes and appealed the commission's approval in court, arguing that the added homes don't meet minimum county requirements for open space and lot size.
Planning Commissioners agonized over the proposal, then decided that the project did meet county requirements.
At issue is whether the density of the new Stoneridge phase should be judged on its own or calculated for the subdivision overall.
Judge Larry Patterson's order said the commission should specifically set forth "how this development complies with the density requirement," and that afterward the courts and County Council should be able to determine if the project complies with the law.
Commission chairwoman Diane Eldridge told GreenvilleOnline.com that planning staff is working on a response to the judge.
She referred further questions to County Attorney Mark Tollison.
Tollison told GreenvilleOnline.com today that the commission will come up with a "more detailed set of findings," then discuss the issue in open session during its November meeting.
GreenvilleOnline.com will have further details as they emerge.
